May 2022 Newsletter

A few weeks ago, Chinese Progressive Association and more than 15 other worker organizations gathered on the steps of San Francisco City Hall to launch the Bay Area Essential Workers Agenda. The Agenda is a manifestation of one of ReWork’s Equity at Work Council’s strategic recommendations from last year’s Advancing Workforce Equity report
More than 1,400 low-wage Bay Area Workers were surveyed about their experiences in the pandemic and what they want in a good job, and that data was then synthesized into a four-point platform that can inform policy campaigns and create equitable post-pandemic economic recovery.
The Agenda has already been endorsed by 26 organizations—we encourage your organization to endorse it as well!
The Bay Area Essential Workers Agenda
As one of the nation’s most prosperous regions recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, essential workers in the Bay Area should have the following:
- Thriving wages, with paid sick leave, paid time off, and flexibility to care for family members.
- A voice on the job and the right to organize, so that working people have a healthy and safe environment, without discrimination, harassment, or fear of retaliation.
- Basic living standards like healthcare, unemployment insurance, childcare, family leave, and retirement security, regardless of job type, race, or immigration status.
- Real pathways to good jobs for all working people, no exceptions.
If you have any questions about this project, please reach out. In the meantime, familiarize yourself with the needs identified in the Bay Area Essential Workers Agenda and visit here to show your support by endorsing it.
